Mature Oak Planting at Upscale Retail Venue
The need for immediate shade and specimen planting at a high-end retail shop in Oklahoma City prompted our quest for a 30-inch Shumard oak. We found it at a Dallas mall scheduled for demolition. The tree was roped off, root pruned and prepped for final digging a year later.
Prior to moving the tree to Oklahoma City, we excavated a 30-foot-wide swath of the new site to install drains and prepare the soil. We brought in a special 170-ton crane to handle the weight and size of the massive tree, and installed irrigation to ensure its survival.
That was five years ago. Today, the tree is thriving in its new home, surviving the move without skipping a beat in its growth cycle. Ground cover beneath the tree supports it, and water is regulated to provide ample moisture when dry without negatively impacting the root system.
